I was born on reddish rocks in smells of sulphur smoke
Among effusive geysers filled with angry fumes and foam
And yet some minds are quiet, at rest amidst the tempests
Having snubbed society, I had sought a place to sit asunder
The desert rose unveiled to me the sand’s survival secrets
Where to wander out and when to slumber on in safe seclusion
Between volcanic peaks and valleys’ pits, some hell unmapped
But there was I, in clothes unfit for cold or cauldron heat
Some bread, as stale as stone, was brought to break the fast
My dearest books remained behind to be a burden off my back
The science that I was after hid beyond museums of memories
It dwelled in desert dust as dry and drab as seas of sand
On such a barren strand the truth would bare its soul to me
The mind would learn to stare at stars behind a mirage myth
While the maddened senses long to mate with mermaids’ moans
And stomachs stoop to hunting stones that starve ascetics too
I would see my grave in grooves of dunes that death will dig
Scared and sorry, I’d surrender all and any sworn allegiance
To grace, to beauty, those ambitions man debates from boredom
All of these would turn to blatant blabber cosy cowards coin
In rhymes supposed to render fables noble like a poet’s odes
Oh! See the sheer and utter shame in shades of rainbow words
The silence so sincere a spock of sand can teach the peacock
Will show the shallow wish of wonder weirdos waste on wisdom
I had come for mad meanders I would make, marooned, on moors
To hush the heart and tame a temper rushed in hectic turmoil
Freed from passion even apes possess, reared by rabid reason,
I could claim the likes of livid Vulcans, maybe marvel mystics,
Full of glee and glory, raving over vain and vanquished evil
The pride to be without exalted pride! And round and round …
Thank one god, as shown in shapes of Yeshuah, Shiva, Buddha
They all convened and intervened to help me hover out of me
Nothing low indeed can grow without a sense of selfless Law
Knowing this, aware of all the wily web of worldly weakness
The time had come at last to leave this land of lava deluge
Back to more banal and needed business led by simpler souls
Who had learnt before the wiser wits the Truth in trivial lives
