Ode to Santa Rita [60th publication]

⇧ SECTION LISTING

O you, the saint of restless woes, my winter rose
I came to you to beg for mirth mundane
Instead you read my heart and felt the pain
That prayers conceal to men without a cause

O you, the saint of faith defeating feudal fights
I came to you with warring heart and hell
But still you rose above the rows to quell
The vain revolt of grief against His mights

O you, the saint of faith in love that never fades
I came to you with hopes I couldn’t afford
And yet you chose to plead before the Lord
To soothe the lonesome soul that love evades

O you, the saint I thank for making matches meet
She came to me as auburn love from autumn Hove
In alien lands we spoke the tongue of hearts that rove
But now, from bygone joys I’m praising Cascia’s feat
